Rockettes Christmas Spectacular
Founded in 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the Rockettes are a dance company. In 1932, they moved and started performing at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. The Rockettes are best known for their Christmas show that they perform five shows a day, seven days a week during the holiday season. Rockettes tickets make the perfect holiday gift. Their signature routine, a high leg kick done in a chorus line, concludes every performance. Every April, auditions are held in New York where women show their talents in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap. On average, 400 to 500 women audition every year however the group consists of 80 women. There is also a height requirement to be even considered to be a Rockette. They must be between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 ½ inches tall. By placing the tallest women in the center of the chorus line and then the rest of the women in descending height order to both ends it gives the illusion that all the women are the same height. The reason for this is when they perform their signature closing routine of the eye level high kicks, all the kicks will be at the same height level. Women that don’t meet this height requirement are not eligible to audition despite their dancing talent. You can catch a live Rockettes show at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, on tour, at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the NBC Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony every year.
