Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are one of the 17 original members of the National Basketball Association (NBA), which was formed in 1949 out of a merger of the National Basketball League and Basketball Association of America. Originally known as the Buffalo Bisons, then Tricities BlackHawks, the Hawks have changed their hometown many times over the years. They started in Buffalo, New York, moved to Illinois, followed by Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then St. Louis, Missouri and finally ended up in Atlanta, Georgia where they have been since 1968. Famous players who have come out of the Hawks franchise include Glenn Anton Rivers (known as “Doc”) and Paul Silas both of whom became coaches after their NBA careers ended.
